Botox, I’ve heard about it, so what’s it all about?

If you’ve been paying attention, you may have noticed an exciting new treatment available from your local dentist at the Dental Care Group Brentwood. Botox! So what’s so special about this new development called Botox?

botox-in-brentwoodBotox is the brand name for the botulinum toxin, and has been traditionally used in medicine to resolve muscle spasms. Doctors noted that when injected in small amounts, the toxin silenced nerves near the injection site, which weakened the muscles around it for a long period of time, relieving the associated issues of the spasms. Therefore it began to be used effectively by doctors to treat overactive muscle disorders like spasming of the head, neck, limbs and even vocal chords. It can also be used to relax muscles that are damaged by clenching too tightly and can also be used medically to realign the position of your eyes!

It has also been used medically in some cases for issues like incontinence, or to cure hyperactive nerve endings, so can solve problems like excessive sweating and the symptoms of some allergies, and is usually used safely in higher doses medically than it is for cosmetic treatments.

The cosmetic uses of botulinum toxin

Society has now got an obsession with beautiful skin, after all, it is the housing that we all live in, and so many people judge on appearances. Because of its ability to relax muscles it quickly began to be used for cosmetic purposes, and when injected into the muscles in the face, causes those muscles to relax, relieving the wrinkles that can form on the face, which can leave skin smoother and more youthful-looking when administered by a dental professional qualified in the use of Botox.

At our dental practice, the Dental Care Group in Brentwood, Botox (botulinum toxin) is used to create a more youthful look, with the effects often lasting for several months at a time and smoothing wrinkles, making the skin appear more taut.

If you’re curious and want to know more about the treatment, please come and talk to our great team at the Dental Care Group about Botox in Brentwood.

What Are the Best Remedies for Toothache?

Toothache can often be due to cavities, perhaps because of untreated tooth decay or where a filling has become loose or has begun to crumble away. Anything that enables bacteria to get into your tooth will greatly increase the chances of it becoming infected and painful. An infected tooth requires treatment as soon as possible as otherwise your condition could worsen and the infection can spread.

dentist in Downham MarketToothache can be utterly miserable but what can you do if you can’t get to an emergency dentist in Downham Market straightaway? A toothache is your body’s way of saying something’s wrong so you do need to take action by contacting a dentist to make an appointment as soon as possible. In the meantime there are is a wealth of home remedies you can try but they should never be relied on as a cure. We’ve only listed a couple below as we do want to stress the need for proper dental care for toothache in Downham Market.

Oil of Cloves

One popular and very traditional remedy is to use clove oil which contains eugenol and this is a natural anaesthetic. However this oil does need to be used very carefully and you should never just try and pour it on to the affected tooth as it could worsen the pain, particularly if you get it on your gums or your tongue. All you need do is put a couple of drops onto a piece of cotton wool and placed this against tooth until the pain begins to dissipate.

Warm Salt Water Mouthwash

A warm salt water rinse can be quite comforting and all you need to do is dissolve a teaspoon of salt into a cup or mug of boiling water and allow it to cool slightly. Swirling this mouthwash around for about 30 seconds will help clean away any debris and reduces any swelling. You can use this treatment as often as needed.

So How Will the Dentist Treat Toothache?

We will thoroughly examine the affected tooth and we may carry out various tests to see if it is sensitive to cold. Dental x-rays help us diagnose any infection, enabling our dentist in Downham Market to recommend the most suitable treatment. If the tooth is infected then this will almost certainly involve root canal treatment, an excellent procedure that can help save badly infected teeth. Without root canal treatment the tooth would need to be extracted and this is something we definitely want to avoid wherever possible. This is why we do urge you to seek out an emergency dentist in Downham Market if you do develop toothache as a treatment can be much more successful the sooner it is carried out and we will have a greater chance of being able to save your tooth.

If you do have toothache or any other sort of dental emergency, please contact Downham Market Dental Care for an emergency appointment. We do offer same-day appointments for any patients in pain so chorus now to book on 01366 382265. We will provide dental care to relieve pain and discomfort and can diagnose the problem although it’s likely you’ll need to return to us at a later date for further treatment to the affected tooth.
